Study of relationship between rework and labor productivity in Building Construction Projects. The objectives of this study included: 1 identifying the factors affecting construction labor productivity, 2 identifying the causes of rework in building projects, 3 addressing the relationship between labor productivity and rework using regression analysis based on data collected from building projects implemented in Palestine. The following steps were used in this study: 1 Questionnaire survey - stage 1: a questionnaire survey was carried out to identify the main factors affecting labor productivity and the main causes of rework on construction sites, 2 Questionnaire survey - stage 2: after identifying the significant causes of rework using factor analysis, a questionnaire survey was conducted to address the impact of these significant causes on labor productivity, 3 Prediction models: Data collected from 40 building construction projects were used to establish the regression models that describe the relation between rework and labor productivity on construction sites.

One of the fundamental requirements for success in making a process function under the concepts of Total Quality Management is to ensure that it is capable of operating with a minimum variability with respect to the quality specification objectives of the products which are produced by the process. Quality may be broadly defined in many ways, but from a strictly technical viewpoint Quality Engineering must be understood as the skill to reduce systematically the variability of the processes. A program for the application of these tools can detect assignable causes, limit waste, improve the quality of the products, reduce or eliminate reprocessing and, even more important, establish a new process of systematic work toward continuous improvement. The present job shows both theoretically and practically how to apply these tools to solve quality deviations.

The root cause analysis techniques are a good choice to be adopted to diagnose the root causes of cost deviation in highway projects. Many root cause analysis tools have emerged from the literature as generic standards for identifying root causes such as Fishbone diagram, Pareto diagram, and the 5-Why analysis. This study diagnosed twenty causes of cost deviation in highway projects in Republic of Iraq which they divided into three main groups planning causes, designing causes, and execution causes. Pareto analysis showed that eleven causes out of twenty causes represent the most important causes of cost deviation, these eleven causes had been filtered by 5-Why analysis, this analysis concluded that the unavailability of enough information about the project is a root cause for planning causes group, while the clarity lack of the owner requirements is a root cause for designing causes group and finally, the poor efficiency of the administrative staff is a root cause for execution causes group. Causes of Quality Deviations in Design and Construction

Isolation of design phase from construction has made the design changes inevitable in construction projects. Extensive literature appraisal has acknowledged the detrimental effect of design changes on project performances. However, the impact and causes of design changes have been divided up, either separately or project specific. As a result, the relationship between impact and causes of design changes could not be established for general construction. The primary objective of this paper is to examine the impact of design changes on project cost and identifying actions responsible for these changes. The objectives of the study were achieved through a systematic review of past literature published in well-established journals, and contents analyzed.

Research was performed to identify the causes and mangitude of quality problems in design and construction and to determine the costs associated with the quality problems. Interviews were conducted, and a glossary of definitions of key quality terms was developed to ensure consistency in the collection and categorizing of data, which was confined to industrial projects. The data from nine projects was summarized and categorized to identify the causes and numbers of quality problems along with their associated costs. Details of the study and its results are described. The analysis described in the paper demonstrates that a methodology to categorize historical data can be used to identify the type and number of quality deviations and their associated rework costs. The methods presented herein can not only identify deviation costs, but can also identify the most likely areas in which to reduce them on various types of future projects.
